Bury Live Well Service is free, confidential and tailored to you.

Although our main base is at Castle Leisure Centre, our stop smoking advisors work across Bury, Radcliffe, Whitefield, Prestwich, and Ramsbottom.

Here’s how we can help:

  • One-to-one support that fits around your schedule
  • Help to get stop smoking medications or switch to vapes/e-cigarettes
  • A personalised plan based on your lifestyle and goals
  • Regular check-ins to keep you motivated (including carbon monoxide testing)
  • Support for families or friends who want to quit together
  • Practical tips to manage cravings and avoid going back to smoking
  • Advice on reducing stress and building healthier habits for the long term
  • No waiting lists- you can start your quit journey right away

This service is available to people aged 18+ who live, work or are registered with a GP in Bury.

What to Expect

Following your referral, our friendly team will contact you to book your first appointment. We will:

  • Ask about your general health and wellbeing
  • Talk about your smoking habits and routines
  • Discuss on the best way to quit for you
  • Share tips for handling cravings, stress, and tricky situations.

You’ll then receive:

  • Weekly support for 4 weeks
  • Then fortnightly check-ins for up to 12 weeks

Speak to you GP

Speaking to your doctor is a great idea if you want to stop smoking. Especially if you have any physical or mental health conditions or are taking medication. This is because the chemicals in cigarettes can affect how some medicines work and your doctor may need to adjust your medication. They may also be able to refer you to a stop smoking service and give you a prescription for stop smoking medication or nicotine replacement.

Ask a pharmacist

Pharmacies are a great place to get advice on quitting smoking and how to use nicotine replacement products like nicotine gum, sprays, inhalators and patches. Many pharmacies even have private consultation rooms if you want to have a confidential chat with a member of the pharmacy team.

Stop smoking support for pregnant women

If you’re having a baby, your midwife can refer you to a stop smoking service just for pregnant women and their partners. Here you’ll be given one-to-one support from a stop smoking advisor who is also a trained midwife or maternity support worker. They will support you throughout your pregnancy and for the first three months after giving birth.
